How do Chemical Peels work?
Chemical peels work by separating the upper layers of the skin causing an accelerated cell turnover rate. Because of their molecular structure, they are able to penetrate past the acid mantle of the skin and deep into the layers beneath the surface of the skin. This causes your skin to shed and regenerate a new layer of skin in a 1 to 2 week period.
The acids we use in our professional chemical peels are typically derived from natural sources and produced for safe usage on the skin.
CHEMICAL PEEL SELECTION
ENZYME PEEL
Our Enzyme Peel is a 20% multi-fruit acid complex made of white grape wine and fresh fruit pulp that gently exfoliates the upper epidermis while wine polyphenols condition the skin. A great introductory-level peel ideal for all skin types.
BRIGHTENING PEEL
This acid peel solution provides intense exfoliation for combination and dry skin types concerned with aging and hyperpigmentation. It contains 35% glycolic and 35% lactic acid. Ideal for dry and sensitive skin types.
ACNE PEEL
This 20% salicylic acid solution provides intense exfoliation for problematic or oily skin areas, even within oil-rich pores. Intense exfoliation for problematic or oily skin areas, even within oil-rich pores.
RETINOL PEEL
This 1% Retinol and Vitamin C peel provides softer, firmer, brighter skin and diminishes the appearance of pores. Can be booked alone or added to another peel for an extra boost. Ideal for all skin types except acne, breakouts, and sensitivity.

Must not currently be on or have used Accutane or any other oral prescription acne medications in the past 12 months

My skin is oilier than usual and I’ve been breaking out…
Your skin is constantly fluctuating with changes in the temperature and moisture levels in the air. With the winter being a dry season both indoors and outdoors your skin is under an accelerated rate of trans epidermal water loss (TEWL), an evaporation and diffusion of skin hydration. Although water is what your skin requires, it compensates for the lost moisture by producing more oil. This causes a buildup of dead cells saturated in excess surface oils, clogged pores, and frequents breakouts.
In order to restore your skins moisturizer balance and hydration, choose products containing hydrating (water) ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin E. Stay away from heavy creams and oil based products as these will only block and clog further.
Photofacials , AHA/BHA peels , and traditional facials are a great way to give your skin a fresh start, balance pH levels, and deliver a much needed boost of nutrients for the season. They also help clear clogged pores, excess oil, remove painful blemishes before they spread, and diminish existing scars.

TIPS for taming OILY Winter Skin…
Use light gel cleansers free of parabens and sulfate. A thorough cleanse in the morning and double cleanse at night gives your skin the fresh cleanse it desires without stripping away vital moisture. Try GLO Purifying Cleanser with Salicylic Acid(BHA) to help clear breakouts and balance pH.

My skin is flaking non-stop no matter how much moisturizer I apply….
When faced with cooler temperatures your skins natural response is to slow its metabolic rate, which includes the rate at which your skin regenerates, this is known as the cell turnover rate. The cell turnover rate of your skin determines how frequently dried cells at the surface shed and regenerate. When this process slows down, you get a buildup of dead cells resulting in flaking skin, fine lines, and dry patches. These layers of dead cells also block vital nutrients and moisture from absorbing into the fresh cells, which is why no amount of product seems to relieve the dryness.
Introducing regular exfoliation to your skin care routine will help increase your cell turnover rate throughout the winter months and maintain it at an active level. Exfoliation is achieved using chemical or manual exfoliants, both offering resurfacing benefits, but differ in procedure and interaction with the skin. Manual exfoliants (skin scrubs) will give a great skin scrubbing massage while sloughing away dead skin cells. Manual exfoliants are not recommended for sensitive or acneic skin types.
Enzymatic exfoliants containing fruit enzymes, AHA, or BHA, react with the skin on a chemical level by dissolving the binding matter between the skin cells causing them to gently lift and rinse away. The active ingredients and intensity vary depending on concentration level and quality of the acids and enzymes.

TIPS for smoothing FLAKING winter skin…
Exfoliate every 2-3 days. This ensures that your skin is always fresh and reaping the benefits of your skin care product ingredients. For those who enjoy a regular scrub try Glo Daily Polishing Cleanser with Salicylic Acid (BHA), amino acids, and gentle Jojoba beads.

Does your skin feel tight, coarse, and easily irritated?
If a visual inspection reveals very small pores, this means your skin is not getting enough oil. This might be the biggest contributor to your dry skin. Very small pores cause the texture of the skin to appear very fine and fragile-looking, particularly in the expression areas.
Dry skin types are usually dull-looking. Foundation-based makeup is difficult to apply because it sits on top of the skin resulting in a “cakey” look.
Here are Dermica’s tips on making the right choices for your DRY skin:
Diet
Eating foods that are high in Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Zinc are a great way to help your skin internally and maintaining good skin health.
Cleanser
When selecting your cleanser, try a cleansing cream, lotion, or light gel. This will ensure that you are not stripping the skin of its vital oil supply. Use lukewarm water to rinse, as hot water can be very drying.
Exfoliant
This process is very important for dry skin. It is prone to building up dead skin cells on the surface, causing it to look flaky and dull. The ideal exfoliant for you would be an enzymatic exfoliant, or chemical exfoliant, and be kept down to a maximum usage of 3 times per week (unless otherwise directed by the manufacturer).
Moisturizer
Restoring the protective barrier and moisture to your skin is the last step in your routine. This is done by using an oil-based moisturizing cream. This type of moisture care will not only give back the nutrients lacking in your skin, but act as the protective barrier keeping moisture in, and external irritants out.
Eye care
Eye care is beneficial in preventing premature aging, and minimizing fine lines and wrinkles. Depending on your age you would either select a gel (18-35), or cream(35+).
