Microblading has become the answer to effortless and flawless brows. We all have different brow shapes, brow hair texture, skin types, desired looks, etc. When it comes to microblading, there is no universal formula. In other words, the amount you’ll need depends on several factors.
While some people may need just a light touch to fill in sparse areas, others might require a more sculpted transformation. So whether you’re starting with barely-there brows or just want a little extra definition, your brows will be tailored to you.

Microblading Levels– Let’s Break It Down
1. LEVEL I – up to 30% additional coverage.
If all you’re looking for is a little extra volume, a LEVEL I is all you need. LEVEL I clients have an existing shape in their brows, no major correction is needed. In other words, just some strokes here and there. LEVEL I Microblading is often opted for by clients that want to correct minor mistakes such as over plucking of the tail or arch.
2. LEVEL II- up to 60% additional coverage.
If you want to thicken the shape of your brows, you most likely need a LEVEL II.
LEVEL II Microblading requires your technician to create a new shape using your existing brow shape. Multiple corrections are made on a LEVEL II procedure. Often, strokes are added to the bottom AND top of your existing brow line as well as adding strokes to the tails for a finished look from beginning to end.
3. LEVEL III- up to 100% additional coverage.
Clients who require a LEVEL III procedure have very little to no brow shape. Using geometry to take in-depth measurements, the technician creates a brow shape to last you 2-3 years.

There is variation when it comes to colour selection when microblading brown and black skin. However, as far as pre and post instructions and the actual procedure itself, we approach microblading the same across all skin types.
Anatomy
From an anatomy perspective, darker skin tones tend to be thicker, this is one of the reasons why they age slower. Additionally, in the ideal climate, darker skin tones tend to be a little oilier. That’s why some say black don’t crack.
The more melanin in the skin, the thicker it typically is; That is not to say it is not sensitive. But the sensitivity may not reflect visually. That is why certain advanced skincare treatments, for example, chemical peels or IPL laser, need to be delivered with caution as the skin may not show visible signs of sensitivity.
Things to consider
As we stated above, darker skin tones are thicker. As a result, the skin may not hold the colour as much as a very thin skin. In addition, skin types 4-6 heal a lot faster, however, they also have higher possibility of hyperpigmentation scarring.
These skin types have a have a greater capacity to build scars. This is where our assessment comes into place. Your technician will ask the right questions to assess any potential side effects.
Can I get microblading if I’m prone to keloid scarring?
We do not recommend it. If someone is prone to keloid scarring, the risk outweighs the benefits. Even if it is not building a protruding keloid, when those fibres reform, it will be a thicker version of the skin that was there before.
Plus, when it comes time for the Refresher, we would be the working on scar tissue, which is tougher and thicker than the original skin, which was thicker to begin with.

For this reason, our prices are based on the percentage of additional brow the artist needs to design and etch. In effect, Level 3 procedures are by comparison much longer than those considered Level 1. Given these points, we find it is best to offer 3 levels of microblading.

Level I : Increase the definition of your brow line, add density to thinning areas, fill small gaps and scars, or balance the overall brow shape. Includes 30% brow coverage. $350
Level II : Remodel your brow shape, balance highly uneven brows, fill-in gaps, scars, increase density and thickness in sparse brows. Includes 60% brow coverage. $450
Level III : Restore your brows from tip-tip and top-bottom with a complete coverage of severely thinned brows or missing brows. Includes up to 100% brow coverage. $550
Refresher Add-On : for Dérmica’s existing clients with under 12 months since last session. $50
Refresher : for Dérmica’s existing clients with over 12 months since last session. $200
NEW Refresher : for new clients with microblading done elsewhere. $250-300

Knowing the healing stages of microblading can help you better plan for your procedure. Here is what you can expect of your brow healing journey.
The first stage if healing is typically inflammation. So, you body will send signals to the areas which will make for higher activity in that area than you are used to. For example, you will likely have some inflammation, redness, and weeping.
Weeping is lymphatic fluid seeping though the cut. This process helps move along the healing process. Blood and fluids clot the area usually within the first couple of hours after your microblading, that is, if not during the procedure.
Days 2-3 see the forming of scabs. These are filled with a little bit of ink, lymphatic fluid, and blood. The scabs eventually separate which is how you get that flaking part of the process. Flaking can last between days 4-6, depending on your skin.
Once all the flaking has finished, you will have fresh juicy cells at the top. Still, you may feel a little tenderness and it could still look scabby and patchy during days 7-10.
End of Healing
By the time you get to week 2, the skin cells have begun to compress and dry, therefore the colour starts to come back up to the surface.
From there, everything seems pretty consistent as you are now healed. Keep in mind that the colour continues to come closer to the surface. It can take up to 6 weeks for the colour to come up and your skin to look visibly healed. However, for up to 12 weeks, your skin is still reforming all of the collagen fibres and networks that make it solid under the surface. The 12th week marks the end of the stages of healing for microblading.
Are you medically eligible for procedure?
Microblading, like all other forms of tattooing, has risks associated with the procedure that though uncommon, must be reviewed. Please read carefully through the following contraindications to ensure you meet criteria.

The day of your appointment- step by step
Your life is about to change! Be prepared to spend up to 3 hours at the spa, depending on the microblading level required.
Upon arrival, you will be asked to complete/update a medical history form. After, you will be escorted to your treatment room to get settled-in and comfy. Ask a staff member for an extra pillow or blanket to maximize your comfort.
BROW MAPPING
Once you are settled in, the technician will begin a thorough consultation. The consultation includes colour selection and brow mapping.
Brow mapping provides a precise outline of the microblading. The outline gives you a guide of the areas in need of fill, and ensures that the shape suits your face and aligns with your other features.
Once you have approved the design created by your technician, she proceeds with numbing your skin.
Quick Tips for Procedure Day
Seeing that you must try to keep your brows dry, arrive to your appointment with freshly-washed hair. This will help you avoid wetting your brows in the shower for the first 2 days after your procedure.
In the same fashion, try to arrive at your appointment with a fresh face.
Numbing time is usually half an hour. With this is mind, clients like to bring something to occupy their time. In any event, we have wifi and magazines to pass the time.
BEFOREAFTERThe ‘AFTER’ image was taken immediately after the procedure. Therefore, the image is intended to depict hair stroke detail, not final colour. To clarify, the final colour is revealed about 5-10 days into healing process.
What to expect after your procedure
Your technician will provide you with after-care instructions. Following the post care is most important. The first thing to remember is to not touch the brows! The brows will darken over the next 2-3 days. In addition, you may experience itchiness as the brows begin to heal and scab. In due time, scabbing will shed. Consequently, the true colour is revealed.
Although your brows may look great on the initial date of service, once shed and healed, the results may differ. We want to ensure that your brows are up to par with your expectations, and for that reason, we include a complimentary Refresher session in our microblading services.
